Hakudakan

What is Taught At the Hakudakan?

We teach a range of street effective martial art styles and systems, see below for a full list of the disciplines our london based martial arts school has to offer.

Ju Jitsu

Ju Jitsu is a Japanese martial art and a highly practical combat system that teaches you how to defend yourself at all ranges from standing to ground.

The style that is taught incorporates multiple rapid strikes, throwing & joint locking. You will be taught effective and thoroughly practical self-defence techniques from various positions such as grabs to varying parts of the body, holds, punches, kicks, strangles and combinations of the above.

In a real situation the last place you want to be is on the floor. However, you may slip or be hit/pushed onto the floor. You will be taught defences from being held down on the ground or kicked whilst on the ground and taught how to get back onto to your feet safely.

You will be shown how good technique will enable you to perform the desired response regardless of your size, strength or sex. When encountering a threat, your response should be dictated by the level of the threat. The range of techniques taught will enable you to respond proportionately to the level of threat you encounter.

At our  martial arts school london our syllabus includes effective control and restraint (C&R) techniques, this enables a person to restrain, pin (or transport) someone to nullify an attack until help arrives. These techniques are ideal for Police Officers, armed forces personnel, bodyguards and door supervisors, some of which train at the Hakudakan.

Knife attacks are a sad element of modern day life. Your first option should be to avoid by removing yourself from the situation but that is not always an option. If avoidance is not possible and you have to defend yourself against someone armed with a knife or weapon, we teach realistic defences against threats, stabs & slashes. This will maximise your chances of dealing with a knife attack.

The techniques taught are street effective and highly practical.

Filipino Martial Arts-Kali

An ancient martial art of the Philippines. Kali is a comprehensive weapons and empty-hand based system.

Weapons training consists of single stick, double stick,  knife, stick & knife. The purpose of teaching the weapons in today’s modern environment is purely to enhance a student’s attributes.  Kali weaponry is a superb way of developing your co-ordination, timing, reflexes, footwork, speed and movement.

The translation of weapons based movements to empty hand allows for a unique approach to destroying limbs prior to attacking the major targets.  The empty hand art of Panantukan (Filipino Boxing) & Pananjakman (kicking) consists of nerve and limb destruction, zoning, punching, kneeing, kicking and Dumog (grappling/wrestling).

Chief instructor Barry Harte at the Hakudakan martial arts school london is qualified as Laken Guro, Dirty Boxing (Warrior Arts Alliance/Daniel Sullivan) and a Black Belt in Jeet Kune Do & Kali (Breen Academy). For a full list of his credentials click here.

Jeet Kune Do

literally “Way of the Intercepting Fist” a martial art combat system developed by Bruce Lee.

Recently, the name used has been changed by some of its adherents to Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do — “Jun Fan” being Lee’s Chinese given name, therefore the literal translation is “Bruce Lee’s Way of the Intercepting Fist.”

Jeet Kune Do is Bruce Lee’s combat philosophy which he created after his research into fighting styles which had originally lead to the creation of Jun Fan Gung Fu. Lee emphasised that Jeet Kune Do was to be understood as a process, not a product (another way of stating the claim that Lee’s interpretation was different from others’ interpretation of the term “martial art”).
