Why Train Practical Self-defence

You will be taught effective and thoroughly practical self-defence techniques from various positions such as grabs to varying parts of the body, holds, punches, strangles, combinations of the above, control and restraint techniques and much much more. You will be shown how good technique will enable you to perform the desired response regardless of your size, strength or sex. When encountering a threat, your response should be dictated by the level of the threat. The range of techniques taught will enable you to respond proportionately to the level of threat you encounter.

The cardiovascular training will also cater for those who wish to increase their level of fitness in addition to learning a tried and tested, street effective martial art in a warm and exceptionally friendly environment.

There are many reasons to become a member of the Hakudakan Jujitsu Dojo. We are a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to the proliferation of high-quality martial artists.

We intentionally run our club with small class sizes to maximise benefits for each and every student. Some clubs simply want to pack as many students in as possible to maximise profits. We are definitely NOT one of those clubs.

Confidence and Stress management

When you train regularly your mind is calmer and more relaxed. We stress test all of our students during gradings. The process of training and stress testing can help people with all areas of their lives.

Discipline, Respect and Commitment

As with any sport or martial art it teaches discipline of the mind and body. Training at the Hakudakan teaches students to take care of themselves, and to think about their overall sense of well-being and balance.

Fitness and Health

Training at the Hakudakan gives you a fun, healthy workout. A typical 2 hour class will begin with a light 15-20 minute warm up, then a 20-30 minute pad circuit, followed by group training and then syllabus progression training.

You will be encouraged to work hard during sessions, but this will be dependent on your current level of fitness and ability. Hakudakan training is intense but each student can advance at their own pace.

Self Defence

If the need should ever arise, you will be able to defend yourself against would be attackers.

Self defence involves defending oneself, one’s property, or the well-being of another from harm.

At the Hakudakan our chief instructor is always looking for ways to train in preparation for any kind of situation. We teach “street effective” techniques rather than “sport focused” or “traditional”.

Socialising and Friendships

When training at the Hakudakan students will meet people with similar interests and potentially make lifelong friends. We are a very social club and members have fun while they train. Hakudakan club members are encouraged to get involved, ask questions and express themselves honestly.

We believe there is no room for egos in training as there is always more to learn.

Students are expected leave their ego at the door and step into the dojo with an open mind.

Experienced instructors

Students will be able to gain a huge amount of insight from our experienced instructors. Most of our instructors are black belt level and above in other martial arts. Coordination and body image

Training will develop the student’s awareness of their body, how it functions and how to control it. This process leads to improving fitness, mobility, coordination and strength. The training helps to build self-confidence, communication and teaches a student valuable life skills.

Setting and Achieving Goals

Our syllabus is based around a coloured belt structure. The focus of training should be on the journey, acquiring new skills and overall development and having fun.

Striving towards a new belt is a valuable lesson in setting and reaching goals.

Students are invited to grade by the chief instructor, when they have achieved the required skill level. During a grading fitness, mental strength and technique will be assessed under pressure.

Self Confidence and Respect

Children with low self-esteem will find their confidence improves with achievement and progression. The structure of the class encourages children to respect their training partners and their instructors. There are certain rules that your child will be expected to follow within the Dojo.

Improved Concentration Skills

Your child will learn to listen and focus on what is being taught. Regular training will develop better concentration skills. Having small class sizes means that every child receives expert tuition from our instructors.

Teamwork Skills

Working together to learn new things and accomplish goals is a very important life lesson for children to learn, and instruction in the martial arts can help your child develop the necessary skills.

The benefits of martial arts training does not end in the dojo. Training will boost a child’s confidence, increases fitness and encourage social inclusion.
